ASTM A131 Structural Steel for Shipbuilding

The ASTM A131 specification covers structural steel plates, sections and bars used in shipbuilding. ASTM A131 sections and bars are offered primarily in Grade A, AH32 and AH36. Other grades may be offered by agreement between the buyer and the manufacturer. ASTM A131 materials under this specification are categorized as follows:

Normal-strength shipbuilding steel grades A, B, D, and E with a yield point of 34 ksi [235 MPa], and high-strength shipbuilding steel plates Grades AH, DH, EH, and FH (AH32 / DH32 / EH32 / FH32, AH36 / DH36 / EH36 / FH36, and AH40 / DH40 / EH40 / FH40) with specified Yield point 46 ksi [315 MPa], 51 ksi [350 MPa] or 57 ksi [390 MPa].

ASTM A131 Marine Steel Plate is used to fabricate hull structures for ocean-going, coastal and inland navigation vessels. Shipbuilding steel plate requires a certain degree of strength, toughness, low temperature and corrosion resistance, as well as good welding properties.
