Aluminum sheets, also referred to as aluminum plates, are the product of pressing and rolling basic raw-form aluminum into panel shapes under high pressure. Similar to the technology used for steel sheet-metal, aluminum sheets can be shaped and welded into uncomplicated forms. Although aluminum exhibits excellent thermal conductivity, it is notably softer and less rigid compared to stainless steel. Consequently, aluminum molds often have thicker walls than those made from carbon or stainless steel.

Aluminum is easily machinable and can be textured relatively effortlessly through processes such as grit blasting and chemical etching. When numerous small molds are required, computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathes present a cost-effective method for machining aluminum.
